Do you watch all the cake shows on TV and wish you could make exciting cakes for your own family and friends? Everyone has to start somewhere! Pila’s beginning cake decorating will take you through the basics of filling and icing a cake, carving and shaping, roses, piped figures and much more. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish in just 4 weeks!

SESSION #1 – All Occasion Cake

Bake and bring a cool, round cake to class (8” x 2” pan $9.50)
(leave cake in the pan)
Cake board (10” round $.60) – foil cover provided at 1st class
Buttercream icing (30 oz. – $6.25) NO whipped cream.
Plastic 9” x 13” cake board ($1.50)
Side Icer Tip known as “#200” or “#789” ($3.99)
Canvas decorating bag (16”) for side icer ($4.95)
Cake filling will be provided by Pila’s Pantry at 1st class

SESSION #2 – Car Cake

Bake and bring a cool, round cake to class (8” x 2” pan $9.50)
Cake board (10” x 14” ¼ sheet $.50), covered with foil ($.30)
Buttercream icing (30 oz. – $6.25) NO whipped cream.
Piping gel ($2.95) for windows
Mini chocolate covered donuts (for tires)
Cake filling optional ($5.25~$8.95)

SESSION #3 – Roses & Hearts Cake

Bake and bring a cool, ¼ sheet cake (9” x 13” x 2” pan $20.50)
Cake board (11” x 15” ¼ sheet – $.65), covered with foil ($.30)
(crumb-coat and ice prior to class, color optional)
Buttercream icing (30 oz. – $6.25) NO whipped cream.
Flower lifter scissors ($3.29)
Flower nail #7 ($1.95)
Cake filling optional ($5.75~$8.95)

SESSION #4 – Safari Animals Cake

Bake and bring a cool, ¼ sheet cake (9” x 13” x 2” pan $20.50)
Cake board (11” x 15” ¼ sheet – $.65), covered with foil ($.30)
(crumb-coat and “fluffy”-ice in green prior to class)
Buttercream icing (30 oz. – $6.25) NO whipped cream.
Piping gel ($2.95) for water pond
Cake filling optional ($5.75~$8.95)

BASIC BUTTERCREAM ICING RECIPE:
1 lb. powdered sugar, ¼ cup cold water, 1 cup shortening (hi-ratio preferred), ¼ tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla extract (clear vanilla preferred); Combine and beat all ingredients until smooth. [ DOUBLE RECIPE FOR EACH CLASS ]

NOTE: We strongly recommend that you use the buttercream icing from Pila’s Pantry FOR THE FIRST CLASS. This way, when you make your own icing for other classes, you’ll know what the consistency is supposed to be like. You can then stiffen it with additional powdered sugar or thin it down with additional water. “BUTTER”-based Buttercream icing tastes great, but isn’t easy to use for decorating because it’s too soft. Feel free to try it, but the “hi-ratio shortening”-based buttercreams work much better.
